A Study on Work Style of Information Technology Employees with their Attitude in Chennai District, Tamil Nadu

ABSTRACT

This study focus on the Work Style of Information Technology Employees with their Attitude in Chennai district, Tamil Nadu. The attitudes of the employees are more important in IT industries. The employees are following their own styles for accomplishing their work. The factors such as self-motivation, work responsibilities, support to colleagues, feel honour to work and personal accomplishment are considered for the research. The descriptive research design was used. 130 are the sample size determined using the simple random sampling technique. The collected data was analyzed and interpreted using statistical method like percentage analysis, linear regression analysis, mean and standard deviation and chi-square analysis. The analysis reveals that there is a significant relationship between willingly accept various work responsibilities and work gives a feeling of personal accomplishment.

 

KEYWORDS: Self-motivation, employee, work style, work responsibility and colleague support.

 

 


INTRODUCTION:

Attitude

An attitude is based on many factors that an employee brings to the workplace. Workers with good attitudes have stronger performance, and workers with poor attitudes exhibit less-than-superior performance [4]. An employee's attitude has a potential to impact his interactions with others and his individual work performance. Attitude affects an employee's reactions to others, including colleagues, supervisors and customers; attitude affects his perception of his job and his value to the organization [5].

 

The employees are categories based on their styles such as data-oriented, detail-oriented, emotionally oriented and idea-oriented. The different style should align with the team to achieve their team goal. The team formation for project work with different work style will result in unique approach [1].

 

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY:

The data was collected using interview methods with the support of well structured questionnaire. The researcher chooses 130 as sample size and data was collected using Simple random sampling method. Simple Percentage analysis, Mean and Standard Deviation, Linear Regression analysis and Chi - Square are the statistical tools used in this research.

From the table 1, it is revealed that 44.62 per cent of the respondents are in the age group of 26 - 36 years. 54.62 per cent of the respondents hold UG as their educational qualification. 42.31 per cent of the respondents are having 5 to 15 years as their experience and 32.31 per cent of the respondents’ income range is above Rs.25000.

 

From table 2, a high level of Self-motivation (Mean = 3.67), Extend support to colleagues (mean = 4.00), Feel honour to work for the company (Mean = 2.08) was seen among age group of above 47 years, Willingly accept various work responsibilities (Mean = 2.54), Responding in positive manner to any new responsibilities (Mean = 2.19), Work gives feeling of personal accomplishment (Mean = 3.85) was high among 15 – 25 years of age grou.

From table 3, a high level of Self-motivation (Mean = 3.14) was seen among under graduates, Willingly accept various work responsibilities (Mean = 2.88), Feel honour to work for the company (Mean = 2.24), Responding in positive manner to any new responsibilities (Mean = 2.41) and Work gives feeling of personal accomplishment (Mean = 3.82) was high among diploma holders and Extend support to colleagues (mean = 2.67) was seen among post graduates.

 

From table 4, a high level of Self-motivation (Mean = 3.67), Extend support to colleagues (mean = 4.00), Feel honour to work for the company (Mean = 2.17) was seen among above 30 years of experience, Willingly accept various work responsibilities (Mean = 2.33), Responding in positive manner to any new responsibilities (Mean = 2.08) and Work gives feeling of personal accomplishment (Mean = 3.33) was high among below 5 years of experience level.

 

From table 5, a high level of Self-motivation (Mean = 4.00) was seen among the income level is above rs. 25000, Willingly accept various work responsibilities (Mean = 2.88), Feel honour to work for the company (Mean = 2.24), Responding in positive manner to any new responsibilities (Mean = 2.41), Work gives feeling of personal accomplishment (Mean = 3.82) was high among the income group of below rs. 15000 and Extend support to colleagues (mean = 2.67) was high among rs. 20001 – 25000 income group.

From table 6.1, regression analysis was conducted to investigate the relationship between age and experience of the respondents. The R Squared value is 0.763 which means that approximately 76 per cent of the variance of dependent variable, age was explained by the predictor variable, experience.

From table 7.1, regression analysis was conducted to investigate the relationship between experience and income of the respondents. The R Squared value is 0.142 which means that approximately 14 per cent of the variance of dependent variable, experience was explained by the predictor variable, income.

 

Chi – Square Analysis:

Hypothesis:

H01    There is no significant relationship between self – motivation and Responding in a positive manner to any new responsibilities.

H02    There is no significant relationship between extend support to colleagues and feel honour to work for the company.

H03    There is no significant relationship between willingly accept various work responsibilities and work gives a feeling of personal accomplishment.

From the table 8.2, it is inferred that, the significance level is 0.223, which is greater than 0.05. So the null hypothesis is accepted. Therefore there is no significant relationship between self – motivation and responding in a positive manner to any new responsibilities.

From the table 9.2, it is inferred that, the significance level is 0.760, which is greater than 0.05. So the null hypothesis is accepted. Therefore there is no significant relationship between extend support to colleagues and feel honour to work for the company.

From the table 10.2, it is inferred that, the significance level is 0.049, which is less than 0.05. So the null hypothesis is rejected. Therefore there is a significant relationship between willingly accept various work responsibilities and work gives a feeling of personal accomplishment.

CONCLUSION:

The unique work style, responsibility and co-ordination of the employees are determined by the attitude of them. The positive attitude enhances the positivity in the working environment [3]. Now a day, the management understand the individual career development and team spirit of the employees and provide the free style environment through organizational structure. The employees are showing high performance with high level of job satisfaction [3]. The positive attitude of the employees result in self-motivation, extend their support to their colleagues, willingly accepts new roles and responsibilities.
